ATTENTION PATRONS:

We promise we're not ignoring you!

If you call and don't get an answer, it's not because we're not picking up--it's because the internet is, alas, down again. We’ve been having intermittent on-and-off service that's absolutely messing with our ability to bring you good customer service.

For now, we've got this workaround: Please email us at info@oldfirehousebooks.com with your questions and requests. We'll check the email first thing every time the internet returns from the land of the dead. So there might be a delay, but at least you'll get through to us eventually!

The First Annual Bookstore Romance Day!

We're thrilled to be participating in the First Annual Bookstore Romance Day! We are proud to say we are a romance-friendly bookstore, and we want the Romance readers of Fort Collins to know it, too! If you’re a long-time romance reader, or just getting into the genre, we invite you to mark your calendars for Saturday, August 17th and join in the fun! Bookstore Romance Day is a day designed to give indie bookstores an opportunity to celebrate Romance fiction—the books, readers, and writers—and strengthen the relationship between bookstores and the Romance community.

Stop by the store anytime on the 17th to take advantage of some romance-related deals, check out our staff's favorite romances (and maybe discover something new!), and pick up a book date...because Blind Date with a Book is back! Since it is the first ever Bookstore Romance Day, and we want the event to succeed in the future, we will be collecting donations for the Bookstore Romance Day team! If you would like to support Bookstore Romance Day, you can also donate on their website here

See the event page for all the other awesome things we have going on!

Rolling to Fort Collins Comic Con!

*Puts on Royal Herald hat* *stands up in the square and reads off a pronouncement scroll*

Hear ye, hear ye! We, the mighty bibliowizards of Ye Olde Firehouse, shall be venturing forth from our fortified castle of books to aid in the frivolities of Fort Collins Comic Con! You shall find us at the northside Aztlan Center on the Seventeenth and Eighteenth of August, where we shall be vending goods of pages and ink and assorted other materials to make nerds smile at booth Q4! We'll also be rolling the dice on the Day of Sun to lead you into battle with Dungeons & Dragons! Come throw thine questions at us when the sun makes the flowers turn west and the insects drone in the meadows at the height of their daily productivity (so like, 2:20 in the afternoon). We hope you shall join us in our fun!

*removes Royal Herald hat* (The hat has a feather. It's very nice.)

We're super excited to head back to Fort Collins Comic Con, and we hope to see you there! We'll have our annual assortment of all things bookish and nerdy available for purchase (including tons of buttons, some awesome science-fiction and fantasy books, and some of our favorite D&D books!), and we're extremely excited about our panel! Roll to Investigate: D&D 101 is on Sunday, August 18th at 2:20pm in the Millennium Falcon Room; we'll be answering any and all Dungeons & Dragons questions for anyone who's looking to start a group, is worried about DMing, or just hasn't figured out how combat works... Check out the FCCC website for more details! We can't wait!

Fort Collins Reads... LUIS ALBERTO URREA!

Novelist, non-fiction writer, poet, and essayist, Luis Alberto Urrea and his novel, THE HOUSE OF BROKEN ANGELS are this year's selection!

The book is about a raucous, multi-cultural family all with unique personalities gathering for a funeral and birthday celebration—all during one weekend! The novel is a New York Times Notable Book and one of the best books of 2018 for NPR, Kirkus Reviews, and the New York Public Library. The New York Times describes the book as, “Epic..Rambunctious…Cheerfully profane…Highly entertaining…A powerful rendering of a Mexican-American family that is also an American family.”

A professor of creative writing at the University of Illinois Chicago, Urrea is best known for the non-fiction “The Devil’s Highway,” which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize, and “Hummingbird’s Daughter,” an historical novel. He also won an American Book Award for his memoir “Nobody’s Son: Notes From an American Life.”

Though the ticket pre-sale has ended, you can still purchase the book and get a jump start on reading! Tickets for the November 3rd event will go on sale September 4th!

Liberate Your Audiobook and E-book Libraries with Libro.fm and Hummingbird!

We know you're busy, and you don't always have time to sit down and read a book. And space is limited, so paper-and-ink copies aren't always practical when you can squish a whole library onto your e-reader. Luckily, we've got you covered on both fronts!

Libro.fm is your one-stop shop for audiobooks. You pick the duration of your subscription--one month, three months, six months, or the whole year--and you get access to over 100,000 audiobooks on any of your devices at any time you want. You get one audiobook a month for your subscription, and you can purchase even more audiobooks for 30% off! You can sign up through Libro.fm/oldfirehousebooks to support them and us and make your road trip or your daily run  just a little more literary!

Hummingbird is the place to go for e-books! Hit up our storefront at oldfirehousebooks.papertrell.com to browse thousands of quality e-books from today's bestsellers to your kid's new favorite picture book, from this month's mystery book club pick to the romance you've been craving to the history book you want to learn from. They've got everything you could imagine available to download to all your favorite devices. Their Frequently Asked Questions page will even tell you how to get the app on your Kindle Fire or Nook!

Since we're partnered with Libro.fm and with Hummingbird, every audiobook you subscribe for or e-book you buy through our storefronts on their websites helps us. So you're not only supporting fantastic digital book services, you're supporting your favorite indie, too! It's a win-win-win for them, us, and you!

Don't Forget Your Student Discount!

A lot of you have taken advantage of this, but we want to remind all college students (and faculty!)--at CSU and FRCC--that if you show us your valid student (or faculty!) ID, you'll get 15% off each item you purchase from us! You must show us your ID at the beginning of your transaction at the register for the discount to be applied. This discount does not stack with other discounts, but we'll always give you the better of the discounts!
